TV advertising and food consumption

Advertising really does have an effect on children.  In a 2008 study in the journal “Appetite,” researchers found that when children saw advertising for certain foods, they were more likely to eat the advertised brand of food.  In other words, the more your children see junk food commercials, the more likely they are to eat that food.  Have you ever been at the store with your child when she has asked for a certain junk food?  Research suggests that your child is not alone.  The article can be found at: Buijzen et al. (2008). Associations between children’s television advertising exposure and their food consumption patterns: A household diary–survey study. Appetite, 50, 231-239.
